Spencer (Profe): Well, what can we say? What a wonderful trip! We did and saw so much. Our students represented the very best that NMSU has to offer.

CPI and our NMSU FLiP coordinator (Kristi Drexler) did an amazing job. The class was a complete success.

I will cherish the memories of Costa Rica forever. What a special group. Cecilia, Jamie, Kacie, Natllely, Nicole, Nikki, Las dos Marías, Victoria, Yuridia, you all make me proud to be your professor. Gracias por ser unas mujeres tan especiales y super tuanis. Les mando un abrazo tico.

Kristi: Thank you to CPI Costa Rica for being our gracious hosts. Thank you to Dr. Herrera for being a FLiP pioneer and completing an outstanding course in this first year of Faculty-led International Programs (FLiP) at NMSU.  For the students for me too - we will treasure this experience.  Felicidades y gracias por todos!!

Easter procesion y Sarchi town

Spencer: Hemos pasado una semana hermosa en este país tan lindo. Cada día ha sido una aventura. Ayer tuvimos un tour por barco en el pacifico. No hay nada como ver algo tan grande casi sin fin, tanta agua azul y vida acuática. Es bueno relajar y nomás reflejar.

Las chicas de NMSU han sido excelentes representantes de nuestra universidad, estado y país. Estoy muy orgulloso de todo lo que han hecho. Este viaje les ha abierto los ojos. Ahora que conocen otra parte del mundo tienen ganas de ver y aprender más. Su formación académica ha cambiado por siempre. La mentalidad de pura vida ahora es más que una expresión, es una manera de ver el mundo y disfrutar cada día que tenemos.

Kristi: Buenos dias!  Este manana, fuimos a Quepos por una procesion de Semana Santa. A meaningful experience to be a part of this experience and talking to locals about this procesion and what it means. Today we're heading to Sarchi, an artisan town and then back to Heredia.

Ceci: Buenos dias, como amanecio el mundo? Sera la ultima noche que estemos aqui. Shanna espero que te sientas mejor. Yo tambien te extrano. No se me olvidaron tus colones. Amaneci bien tostada por la playa de ayer. Fue una experencia muy especial. Mas tarde les manando un email ninas. Me hablan mas tarde. La quiero. Cuiden a mis negritos ninas.

The class is now in Heredia at Hotel La Condesa. We'll have a farewell dinner this evening and then time to rest and pack for an early departure back home tomorrow.

Snorkeling Manuel Antonio National Park

Kristi: Buenos dias! We're off on a snorkel trip this morning, then working on community interview projects, then late afternoon beach time.

Maria Mendoza: Hola!! ayer fuimos a bucear (snorkeling) en el oceano y fue muy divertido!! Tuve la oportunidad de ver pescados por debajo del agua y nadar! fue increible! el paseo en el barco fue muy relajante y el pescado que nos dieron para comer estaba riquisimo. Este dia fue realmente divertido, cada dia ha sido una adventura.

Kristi:  Good morning! We're at Manuel Antonio (near Quepos)! We drove a few hours from Monteverde, and took a motor boat/wildlife viewing trip on a river. Almost immediately we saw a pair of scarlet macaws in flight - wow! - many crocodiles, egrets, herons, ibis, spoonbills, osprey, (black) hawks, iguanas, kingfishers, pelicans, frigate birds, and who knows how many other birds. Incredible!  Then a fast cruise back.  Que bueno!   We stopped in Jaco for lunch and then continued to Quepos and Manuel Antonio. We visited the sea y la playa - it was the first time some of the students have ever seen the sea and the beach! What a beautiful beach sunset at the national park (see below).

Natllely: No la hemos pasado de maravilla. De camino a Manuel  Antonio a la playa a divertirnos. Monte Verde es un lugar maravilloso y mágico la gente es muy hamable y es un lugar que todos tenemos que visitar en un futuro. La  comida es grandiosa y solo hay una palabra pa describir este lugar MAGICO!!!!

Kacie: Buenos Dias! Estamos en Manuel Antonio y yo emocionada por la Snorkel Cruise! Fuimos a bailar ayer en la noche y aprendi bailar salsa y bachata. La playa es muy bonita y la clima hace mucho calor. He aprendido mucho espanol y estoy disfrutando mi tiempo en Costa Rica.

Monteverde Cloud forest and cooking class

KRISTI: Buenos dias!  Estamos en Monteverde pueblo. Los estudiantes asisten a clase del Dr. Herrera esta mañana con la asistencia del CPI's "Profe Ale(xandra)". El campus nos hermoso, el pueblo es precioso, y las familias son tan agradables. Los estudiantes (y Dr. Herrera y yo) somos felices. Después del almuerzo, vamos a Monteverde a caminar por los senderos. Volveremos a CPI para clases de cocina esta noche y más tiempo con sus familias.
Good morning! We are en Monteverde town. The students are in class with Dr. Herrera this morning with the assistance with CPI's "Profe Ale(janda)".  The campus is beautiful, the town is lovely, and the families are so nice. The students (and Dr. Herrera and I) are happy! After lunch today, we'll go to Monteverde cloud forest to hike on the trails. We'll return to CPI for cooking class this evening and more time with the families. 

JAIME: Hola! Solo tengo unos momentitos para escribir antes de la clase de cocinar, pero unas cositas desde mi experiencia aqui en Cosa Rica:

Desde hemos llegado a este pais, he tratado de escribir unas palabritas aqui en el blog, pero parece si nosotros siempre estamos haciendo algo,o no nos tengo wifi por el momento. Entonces lo siento que ya es martes y solo estoy empezando de escribir algo! Primero, me encanta este pais muchisimo, y estamos disfrutandonos mucho mucho. Las dias son muy largas pero hacemos mucho. He estado en Heredia por dos dias y he conocido gente muy amable. Hablamos con un grupo de hombres quien estan retirado y quien se conocieron desde ninos.  Uno de los hombres tenian 94 anos de edad! La comida es muy rica, y la gente es amable.  Ayer, fuimos en el "Skyline" canopy (zip-line) y eso fue super bien.  Me encanta muchisima la naturaleza aqui!

Since we have arrived, I have been trying to snag a couple minutitos to write on this blog, but it always seems as though we are always on the go or in a place that doesn't have wifi. Entonces, I am sorry it's already Tuesday and this is the first time I have written anything! So far, I am loving this trip and everything about it. The days are long but very eventful and fun.  Saturday we were in Heredia and met some amazing people.  We spoke with a group of men that were all retired and had known each other since they were chiquitos growing up.  One of them was 94 years old and they still meet everyday in the park in the mornings.  Now we were in Monteverde which I like much more than the city. Yesterday we saw a sloth and went zip-lining in the rain forest. It was simply incredible.

My mama Tica (the mother of my host family here) is named Chela, and she is very friendly and nice. Today it is her sister's birthday, so we are going over for a party, and if I am lucky I will get to dance.  Bachata is very popular here and I am super excited! As they say here in Costa Rica, PURA VIDA! 

Kristi: We've really enjoyed Monteverde - both the cultural and touring activities and the homestays where the class is gathering a lot of their photo and interview material for their class projects. Yesterday on the cloud forest walk, we had a perfect view of a pair of quetzals. wow! Also, in Monteverde we've seen coatimundi, guan, solitaire birds, a 2-toed sloth, a toucan, and other forest critters. A few of us saw howler monkeys. Que suerte!!  So Monteverde has been great!
